This week I’m sharing the final part of my three-part series called “Grab & Go”, where I'll share my top tricks, tips, and thought processes for handling mealtimes when you’re feeling uninspired, out of ideas, short on time, or just need a little help at the grocery store. Each week, I’ll spotlight a set of items you can grab from the store and use in multiple ways throughout the week. Whether these items seem like basic staples you already have in your fridge or new discoveries, I encourage you to incorporate them into your meals and see how they can enhance your cooking.
This week, I’m highlighting three ingredients that can be used in both sweet and savory dishes. These versatile ingredients will simplify your cooking or baking process, as they should definitely make the cut no matter what you plan to prepare.
BROWN BUTTER SAGE PASTA WITH LEMON MISO MUSHROOMS



Brown butter is truly the perfect transitional flavor from summer to fall. This ingredient not only adds a deeper richness than regular butter but can also be easily adjusted based on the herbs you pair with it. I particularly love using sage, as it imparts subtle hints that are not overpowering yet remain distinct. Shortly, I plan to incorporate brown butter into dessert dishes, and I’ll keep you all updated on the results! Oh and…. the sage gets crispy once removed and cooled, which is such a lovely touch.
Recommendations:
Cook just before serving, as the butter can be absorbed quickly.
The longer the sage is cooked into the brown butter, the more flavorful the sauce will be. Just be careful not to burn the sage leaves.
It may seem like there's not enough sauce for the mushrooms to cook in, but once you cover the skillet and let them simmer, the sauce will soak into all the mushrooms.
Keep a close eye on the garlic discs to prevent them from burning, especially if the sauce is too hot or needs more cooking time while the garlic is finished. You can always remove the garlic, similar to the sage, and add it back in later.
